Lauderdale House

The Exuberance of Youth

Antonis Sideras

Lauderdale House is happy to showcase the work of the 2015 ‘Pride in the House’ Art Prize winner Antonis Sideras, as part of the Lauderdale Transformed February Festival. Sideras returns to Lauderdale House to present a selection of silkscreen prints from his upcoming project “The Exuberance of Youth”, tying with LGBT history month.

‘The Exuberance of Youth’ presents a series of self portraits, in which Sideras exposes a vulnerable side of himself associated with his experience of youth. Early adulthood is a time when people shed their teenage cocoon and emerge as independent adults and this transition comes with growing pains.  Sideras felt compelled to make work that captured the fragile moments when he felt overwhelmed by the fast pace of his life.

Antonis Sideras is a queer artist born in Limassol, Cyprus in 1992 and currently based in London. His practise examines issues that arise from living life in the contemporary western world - such as queer identity, gender and gender fluidity, body image, social life fragmentation and consumerism. His work diffuses organically between performance, collage, drawing, photography and printmaking. He is currently undertaking an MFA Fine Art course at the Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL) and has been involved in a number of group exhibitions, live performances and workshops with organisations such as the Nunnery Gallery, Battersea Arts Centre, La Juan Gallery and Live Art Development Agency. He has also received a D&AD New Blood Yellow Pencil Award for his video performance ‘Birth of the Botch’ in 2014 and was named the Overall Winner at the ‘Pride in the House’ Art Prize at the Lauderdale House in 2015.
