Ian Shaw

Ian Shaw

Thursday 20 April

Opening our Spring Jazz in the House series is one of Lauderdale's most loyal supporters, pianist/singer Ian Shaw. From his earliest days in the 80's as a white soul boy with Brave New World, to his position today as first among UK male jazz singers, his career has been marked by an astonishing vocal technique allied to real emotional depth. Shaw’s career in performance began unusually for a jazz musician on the Alternative Cabaret Circuit and his performances are filled with his wicked, spontaneous wit.

Winner of 'Best Jazz Vocalist' at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2004 and 2007 and nominated in the 'Best UK Vocalist'category at the JazzFM awards in 2013, Ian Shaw has already amassed a number of highly acclaimed internationally released albums and is a popular performer both in the UK and the US. He has been cited, along with Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling, as one of the world’s finest male jazz vocalists.
